Weekend poll

While all the cool NYC types are out boozing it up with Larry Gonick and Timothy Zahn, I've got something for those of us who are away from the action: this highly sophisticated, mature adult-oriented poll to gauge your opinion on the most important issue of the day (EDIT: I think it's working now):

The case against Geoff Johns: relies on continuity porn, his penchant for dismemberment disturbs a wide spectrum of comics readers, nobody seems to like Green Lantern.

The case against Mark Millar: an inveterate self-promoter who tends to say stupid things on his website, has all the subtlety of a jackhammer, nobody seems to like Civil War.

Polls will be open until Monday morning, assuming I still remember this by then.

You would think installing a simple poll would be easier. Try it now. If this doesn't work, I'll just make up some results.

I hate to say it... but as much as I dislike some of both guys bodies of work, having heard both of them do radio interviews with Fanboy Radio and Comic Geek Speak, I can't bring myself to dislike either of them.

I still think Johns is OK but I haven't read as much of his work. Millar seems to treat characters as plot modules. Also, he's a jerk. I mean, it says it right there in the poll.

As far as crimes inflicted in the literary sense, the clear winner is Millar.

And by winner, I mean "routinely turns out comics in which everyone talks like either Clint Eastwood or Bruce Willis in service of a ridiculous plot that thinks it's much more weighty than it is".

Johns may be devolving as a storyteller, but he hasn't reached Millar's level of just plain "bad comics". He was the perfect guy to resuscitate GL precisely because of his sweet, sweet continuity lovin'.

Now we'd all like to get on with new adventures instead of resolving 25 year old plots, thanks much.

No option for "a pox on both their houses"?

I figured if that were an option everyone would have picked it. Besides, you can interpret "sexy dudes" however you choose.
